Service Designer (Maternity cover)

We’re looking for a Service Designer to join our team on a 9 month fixed term contract at Futurice UK, you’ll join our highly collaborative, cross-functional product teams, working closely with clients and users to co-create intuitive, impactful and accessible digital service solutions.

As a service designer at Futurice UK, you’ll help clients to create compelling and differentiated services as a hands-on practitioner and coach. We’re looking for designers who share our excitement about innovative, beautifully crafted digital experiences that have a positive impact on people’s lives.

What you are responsible for

  • Our Senior Service Designers are responsible for guiding design and research approaches and representing best practice through delivery of client work with other specialists in our Design, Strategy and Technology teams.
  • Working in agile, multidisciplinary teams to create exceptional digital service designs at pace, balancing the needs of service users, service providers and clients throughout.
  • Undertaking high quality customer research, including, sample design & recruitment; planning, moderating and capturing interviews; synthesis, analysis and ‘sensemaking’; communicating concepts, developing and delivering high quality presentations.
  • Planning and facilitating collaborative work and workshops with clients, customers and internal teams, including generative, co-creative and evaluative formats, lifecycle and journey mapping.
  • Inspiring team members and clients with compelling, well-thought-out actionable recommendations, service concepts and specifications.
  • Managing the day to day running of small projects, contributing to proposal writing and new business opportunities.

Some of the things we'd love to see

Skills

You have a fluency and passion for service design and user-centred design, in addition to:

  • Strong research skills; a high level of experience in planning, executing, and conducting both quantitative and qualitative research, and feeding this into design direction.
  • Strong creative & analytical skills; able to reframe and think on both a holistic and a detailed level; able to combine rigour and intuition to structure and solve problems.
  • Strong synthesis and storytelling skills; turning insight into action, able to articulate the narrative between research and concepts, ideas and rationale in a clear and compelling way to colleagues, and clients alike.
  • Strong organisation skills; able to organise your work efficiently, deliver to the desired quality and juggle tasks when the situation demands; the ability to plan, effectively execute your activities within budget; flag and appropriately escalate risks.

What we can offer you

  • Competitive salary benchmarked externally and internally for salary fairness: £55,000 - £75,000 (depending on experience)
  • Company pension contribution of 6%

  • 25 days of holidays + plus bank holidays and a day off for your birthday too. We offer a long service annual leave scheme of an additional day per year after three years’ unbroken service, up to a maximum of 30 days

We are excited to see your portfolio of service design projects and hear about the specific roles you played in each. We’re interested in finding out about you as an individual, and how you approach working with others - clients and other members of a project team.

We usually follow the following format for interviews, currently all held remotely:

  • 30min video/telephone call with our People Director
  • 1hr interview with 2 people, a developer and a designer
  • 1hr interview with 2 directors

Salary: £55,000 - £75,000 (depending on experience)
